The game of bingo has been played by many generations and can be traced as far back as 1530. Bingo has grown and changed many time during its existence. Generally bingo is played with a grid of numbers, where you cover the numbers as they are called, and is purely a game of change. Bingo has been seen widely as a game for the older generation, although since the overtaking of the internet there is a younger generation getting involved with bingo.

Bingo can be traced to a game that was played in Italy in 1530, this was a lottery game. In France, during the 18th century, there were additions to the lottery game and the game evolved into something similar to the game we know today. These additions were playing cards, tokens and the reading of the numbers. In the next century, the game took an educational turn in Germany. It was used to teach children spelling and maths skills. In 1929, bingo had shown up in the United States as a game called Beano. Beano is played with dried beans, rubber stamps and cardboard sheets. A man named Edwin Lowe introduced the game of Beano to his friends after seeing it being played. Edwin’s friends liked it and one of the players is said to have made bingo history when he called out “Bingo” instead of “Beano”. From there bingo took off and developed, America eventually saw the opening of bingo halls.

Bingo halls are places where people go in and play bingo with other people, often for prizes. One of the biggest ways to play bingo, in the current century, is online bingo. This is a popular way to play bingo because it doesn’t involve you leaving your home and it still allows you to play bingo with other people. Online bingo is possibly popular because it doesn’t involve you buying any of the marker pens that are needed when playing on the paper cards. There are many different websites that offer bingo and most of them are free. The research is showing that online bingo is most often played by people that are under 50 years old. This is showing that bingo is no longer for just the older generation. Bingo is one of the easiest games to learn and is a great leisure activity. It used to be thought of as only for the older generation, but with online bingo the younger generation is starting to play. Bingo has come a long way from its simple beginnings.

Bingo will continue to change and get better as different generations find new things to add and change about the game.

Did you know that …

... there are two types of bingo played around the world?

North America plays 75-ball bingo on a 5x5 card with the centre square usually marked 'free'. In the UK, parts of Europe, Australia and parts of South America they play a 90-ball game, marked on a 9x3 card. Both types of bingo are prominent online.

Unlike balls used in regular bingo halls, online bingo sites use a random number generator. The online bingo play works almost exactly like playing online poker or online casino games with everything being virtual. Most bingo halls also offer links to online poker and casino offerings. One notable feature of online bingo is the chat functionality that gives the opportunity to interact with other players.

Useful Tips

If you are going to try online bingo for the first time look for the best no deposit bingo and free bingo sites. Experience the game with the calm deriving from the awareness that you are not risking your own money, nevertheless you can win some good bucks.

Progressive jackpot bingo games offer high value cash prizes. The jackpot is accumulated over a period of time, often taken from payments made to play smaller games. Usually as each new card pattern emerges, the pattern will have a number defining the amount of calls needed to claim the Jackpot. If players obtain a Bingo in this amount of calls or less then they will win the Progressive Jackpot. But rules are different for the different online bingo halls, so check before playing.
